Activation
You must first connect the standard Nokia router. Only when this is active, you can register your own equipment. It is best to use the chat function so that no errors occur.
- You ask the customer service employee if they want to register your own fiber optic modem.
- The first question they usually ask is the brand and type , based on this they check if it is on the BBF.247 list. Of course you can also directly mention that it is on the BBF.247 list.
- The second question is the PON ID or PON serial number. This consists of a total of 12 hexadecimal characters, the first 4 for the manufacturer code (vendor ID) and then 8 for a serial number. In many cases, the PON ID can be read from a label. For example, Huawei uses manufacturer code HWTC.
- Some well-known PON IDs (and a nice overview here ):
- ALCLxxxxxx -> Nokia
- HWTCxxxxxx -> Huawei
- AVMGxxxxxxx -> AVM FritzBox
- GNXSxxxxxxx -> Genexis
- ADTNxxxxxxx -> Adtran
- GPONxxxxxxx -> FS.com SFP+ onu stick
- ZRMTxxxxxxx -> Zaram SFP+ onu stick
- They often also ask for a serial number , so please provide the PON ID again.
- And sometimes they ask for the MAC address . You can give any MAC address for this, it is not necessary.
Here's a tip on how to prepare: justdaboo in "[Delta XGS-PON Glas] Install your own ONT/modem/router - 2"
The helpdesk employee will then create a ticket for the second line and there is a turnaround time of 1 working day. If you are lucky it will be picked up quickly, otherwise not until the next working day. It will be advised to connect the new modem. As soon as the PON LED lights up, there is a connection to the network.
There is one thing left to do and that is to set the VLAN for your internet connection (WAN), this should be set to 100 (in some cases vlan 100 does not work but 500 does). You may need to restart your router to activate it and then it should work.
Please note: In some situations it can take a long time before you get an IP address, during that time there is a connection but the internet does not work. More info in this post: fagao in "[Delta XGS-PON fiber] Install your own router (part 2)"
General
Q: I changed my subscription, or I went from Delta to Caiway or the other way around. I used to have AON, but now I got XGS-PON, but I don't want that. Can I still be put back on AON?
A: No, unfortunately not. All AON connections will be migrated to XGS-PON. AON is old, XGS-PON is new. In case of a change you will be transferred to XGS-PON. You can recognize this by the fact that you will receive a new modem (The Nokia XS-2426G-B)
Q: Can't I switch to another provider that still has AON?
A: Yes, that is certainly possible. Or switch to Ziggo. But almost all providers are switching to XGS-PON. Because that technology saves a lot in costs for the provider. Both in electricity and in the necessary equipment.
Q: How does the conversion from AON to XGS-PON work?
A: A technician must transfer your connection from AON to XGS-PON in the PoP. Simply plug your glass cable into another switch. This will remove your AON connection and at that point you can connect the supplied Nokia. See the heading Activation for more information.
Q: Yes, but Caiway or Delta told me that I can change my modem myself after <date> to activate the connection. And even that my old connection will remain active if my new one doesn't work. Don't I have to wait until my connection drops?
A: You may believe that it is different in your situation, but all connections that have been migrated, that are known here, have been migrated in the above manner from AON to XGS-PON. If it has been different in your situation, please let us know!
Q: My speed has been increased, but I still have the old speed on my own modem. With the original modem I do get the right speed
A: This is a known issue. Delta/Caiway needs to re-run the workflow for your own modem. This is what is happening: EWS99 in "[Delta fiber] Install own router"
Q: My IP address changed, but now I can't access my network remotely. I'm in the 62.45.xy range.
A: You have probably been switched to CG-NAT. Log in to your Nokia modem, click under Services at Internet on WAN-IP. If your IP address starts with 100 you are in the CG-NAT pool
Q: I have been put in the CG-NAT pool, but I don't want that. Can I get a normal IP address again?
A: Yes, that is possible! Contact the service desk and ask if they can give you a normal IP again. Usually it is arranged within 4 hours. Or look in your "My Delta" or "My Caiway" environment. As soon as you are in the CG-NAT pool there should be an option to switch it off again. If you switch it off in the evening, it will be arranged the next morning (See this experience )
Q: Does Delta/Caiway already have IPv6?
A: The rollout for XGS-PON customers has started. All new customers will get IPv6 immediately, existing customers will be updated in batches. By 31/12/2023 everyone will be done. If you don't want to wait, please send a private message to @ fagao with your customer number and the request for an earlier IPv6 rollout.
Q: Where can I see if Delta/Caiway has a malfunction?
A: This is possible here for Delta and here for Caiway, or via a third party, here
Q: Wow, I found some really cheap Nokia SFPs for XGS-PON. Will they work?
A: No, you probably found a XGS-PON ONU SFP. That is for in the switch on the provider side (so in the PoP). For example the Nokia 3FE46901AC XGS-PON ONU. You need a XGS-PON ONT SFP/SFP+ module and those are a lot more expensive (probably due to supply and demand). See the heading Suitable Equipment.
Q: I have taken Business Flex or Business Pack with my connection, because you get a fixed IP. I still got a new IP address, without prior notification. How is that possible?
A: Business Pack or Business Flex do not guarantee a fixed IP address. See this post for multiple examples of users whose IP address has changed. There are even users in the CG-NAT pool. Only Business Pro offers a real fixed IP address. The Business Flex page even states at the bottom of the FAQ that you will not receive a fixed IP address.
Q: Yes, but in the past you got a fixed IP with Zakelijk Flex. And yet that is changing now?
A: Very stupid indeed. If you can find somewhere in the terms or in your agreement that you have a fixed IP, then definitely fight it! And keep us posted so we can update this FAQ.
Nokia XS-2426G-B
Q: I want to put the Nokia XS-2426G-B in bridge mode.
A: That is not possible yet. Delta/Caiway says they are working on this, but no date has been announced yet.
Q: I found a way in the Nokia app to put my Nokia XS-2426G-B in bridge mode! Have you seen that?
A: Yes and that doesn't work. See Computer guy in "[Delta fiber] Install your own router"
Q: My network is on 192.168. 2.x. I can't set up this network on the Nokia XS-2426G-B
A: The network 192.168. 2.x is used internally in the Nokia XS-2426G-B and therefore cannot be used. You will have to use another network address and renumber your network (unfortunately).
Q: I have created a port forward to my web server. I have linked my.domain.nl to it. This works fine remotely (for example via 4G), but internally I cannot access my web server via my.domain.nl.
A: The Nokia XS-2426G-B does not support NAT hairpin or Local NAT loopback. As a workaround you can set up a local DNS server and then point your domain to your internal address of your web server. Search for hairpin here: [Delta fiber] Experiences & Discussion
Nokia XS-010X-Q
Q: How do I access the Nokia XS-010X-Q web interface?
A: If you don't get an address via DHCP, set your network card to 192.168.100.2. The web interface is available via http://192.168.100.1 . Username/password is admin/1234. Here you can see what the web interface looks like: EWS99 in "[Delta fiber] Install your own router"
Q: Does the Nokia XS-010X-Q also have telnet or SSH?
A: Yes, telnet. See: EWS99 in "[Delta fiber] Install your own router"
Q: I see in the web interface that the ONT ID is set to 0x00000000000000. Do I need to set the correct ONT ID here?
A: No, don't touch it! The correct ONT ID is already set by default
Q: I have been using the ONT ID..
A: You shouldn't have done that.. A reset won't help, because the ONT ID will still be there after the reset. What you can still do is set the ONT ID that is on the bottom of your sticker.
Q: I want to change my password and/or disable telnet.
A: That is not possible, as far as we know.
Q: Delta/Caiway activated my Nokia. I have had confirmation that it should work. The PON light is on, but as soon as I connect the network cable, the network connection to my router is lost. If I remove the fiber from my Nokia, the connection remains active.
A: This is a known issue in the 3FE49337AOCK68 firmware. Your Nokia needs to be updated. However Delta/Caiway doesn't do that, because it's your modem. No one has been able to find the right firmware and/or update their modem. There are some Delta/Caiway employees in this topic, maybe they want to update your modem if you ask really nicely?
Update: See above under “Update” under the heading “Warning”. DFN recently started updating the firmware.
Q: Which firmware versions work on the Delta / Caiway network?
A: 3FE49337AOCK85,
Zaram ZXOS11NPI SFP+
Q: What is the ONT ID and S/N of the Zaram ZXOS11NPI?
A: On the packaging and the SFP+ it says “ZarmCN12345678”. The ONT ID and S/N are both ZRMT12345678.
Q: What connector goes into this SFP+?
A: A SC/UPC (blue). So not directly the connector from the Delta/Caiway Nokia device!
